Roxanne will present a lecture on Monday called “Crazy Quilts & Ribbonwork”  - a retrospective on crazy quilting, the evolution of ribbonwork, and the joining together of these two art forms.

On Tuesday there will be a 6 hour workshop – “Crazy Quilting”   Master this wonderful piecing technique which offers you a chance to use those scraps you’ve been saving.  Embellish the block with embroidery stitches, hankies, buttons, trims and other memorabilia.  Then fashion your block into an heirloom pincushion, pillow, needle case, stocking, or make it the first of several blocks for a larger crazy quilt.

Rosemary Eichorn

The Monday night program will be “Renewing the Creative Fires” -  A brief slide presentation begins with a visual description of the techniques that Rosemary uses in creating her fabric collages. Then you’ll visit her studio and the gardens surrounding it for design and color lessons using nature’s illustrations. You’ll see how these lessons are translated into her sumptuous collaged quilts and garments. Her enthusiasm for her craft shines through as she shares the ‘threads’ that have shaped her collages. Rosemary’s mastery of color, design and sewing skills and her zest for life are further illustrated by a trunk show of her quilts and garments. Included are her garments from the Fairfield/Bernina Fashion Shows and other award winners which will be modeled by members of your group. Rosemary peppers her presentation with personal anecdotes and poems, promising to inspire the artist in anyone who treasures a fabric stash.

Tuesday and Wednesday will be “Collage Crash Course”

The format is a small wall hanging or a panel which can be used as part of a larger quilt. Emphasis is on the development of techniques for fiber collage. You'll learn easy and effective ways to improve your sense of design and color and Rosemary will help students work on their individual designs. There's also lots of information on using metallic and novelty threads for free motion stitching. Rosemary's unique piped and shaped edge techniques are covered and methods are reinforced with handouts.

Christmas Program

Community Projects

You are invited to attend our weekly Community Projects workshops which bring a lot of joy and comfort to needy children and adults in our community who receive the quilts. The workshops are held on Tuesdays from 12:30 – 3:00 at the Sonora Senior Center.  Please bring cutting tools and or your sewing machine.  We have a good time together and you are encouraged to come as many times as you can and to stay as long as you want. If you cannot make it to the workshops, kits are available at our monthly meetings for you to take home and complete.  If you are making quilts at home, please make the dolly quilts around 22 x 26 inches and with no batting.  The crib quilts should be close to 40 x 50 inches.
